Officer Bios (2019-2020)

Jeremy Chiu

President, Jeremy Chiu

Jeremy Chiu is a senior at Lynbrook High School in San Jose, CA. He began playing go at the age of five, and his love of the game has only grown since then. Currently rated AGA 7d, Jeremy has represented the US in several international youth and adult tournaments, including the 2013 and 2015 World Youth Go Championship and 2016 Korean Prime Ministers' Cup. Outside of playing go, Jeremy enjoys doing math, spending unhealthily large amounts of time on video games, and sleeping eight and a half hours a day.

Melissa Cao

Vice President of Operations, Melissa Cao

Melissa is currently a junior at the Peddie School in New Jersey. She has been playing Go for six years and is currently AGA 3 dan. Melissa has represented the U.S. in the 5th Globis U-20 Tournament in Japan and the 35th World Youth Goe Championship in Germany. She has also taught Go at her local Huaxia Chinese School for several years and recently created the Board Game Club to promote Go at her school. Outside of playing Go, Melissa enjoys painting, playing piano, running cross country and playing lacrosse.

Brandon Zhou

Vice President of Events, Brandon Zhou

Brandon Zhou is currently a junior at The Westminster Schools, in Atlanta, Georgia. He has been playing go for 9 years and is currently an AGA 5 dan. He was the junior representative for the United States at the 2014 World Youth Go Championship. He teaches go at his local Chinese school, and also started a go club at his school this year. Outside of go, he enjoys playing saxophone and math.

Katherine Xie

Treasurer, Katherine Xie

Katherine Xie is a sophomore at the Pingry School in New Jersey and currently rated AGA 2 dan. She placed second in the Women’s Tournament at the 2019 U.S. Go Congress and won the senior division of the National Kyu Championships for two consecutive years 2017 and 2018. Katherine also founded a Go Club at her school to promote and share the game with other students. Besides Go, she enjoys playing squash and traveling.

Yifan Zhang

Secretary, Yifan Zhang

I’m currently a senior at Don Bosco Technical Institute in Rosemead, California. I have been playing Go since elementary school and I am currently AGA 4 dan. I won first place of US Open 3 dan section in 2015 and second place of Southern California Championship dan section in 2017. In 2017, I founded Bosco Tech Math and Go Club to integrate mathematical thinking into the art of Go and promote the game to more people, including our band director. Besides playing Go, I am also part of the band, ASB, and ASM(Associated Society of Metals).

Sophia Wang

Promotion Head, Sophia Wang

Sophia Wang is a sophomore at Millburn High School in Millburn, New Jersey. She has been playing Go for nearly a decade and is currently AGA 4d. She enjoys competing at tournaments throughout the year, most notably representing the US in the 29th Pair Go Championship. Sophia teaches kids how to play go at her local Chinese school and has recently started a Go Club at her high school. Outside of Go, she enjoys debating, skiing, traveling, and writing scientific studies.

Seowoo Wang

Tournament Director, Seowoo Wang

Seowoo Wang is a Junior at Northwood High School in Irvine, California. She started playing Go at the age of 6 and is currently an AGA 5 dan. Seowoo has competed for tournaments both in and out of the US with notable accomplishments, including 2-time champions for Women’s Tournament. She also taught Go at her local Chinese school during summer and is very passionate about Go. She hopes to have a go club running at her own school by 2020 and wants to start teaching ConnectGo (a simplified version of Go) for people with autism. Outside of playing Go, Seowoo is a 3rd-degree taekwondo black belt and enjoys playing tennis.

Alice Cai

Deputy Treasurer, Alice Cai

Alice Cai is currently a junior at Santiago High School. She has been playing Go for only two years, but has a deep passion in it. She founded the first Go club in her high school to teach Go since freshman year, and organized the first Go association in her city Corona. She founded Go sections in two libraries so far, and has been teaching there for over one year, hoping to bring Go to her community. She also organizes a big annual tournament, Superstar Go Championship, and funded over $1000 for the prizes without charging the tournament fees. Outside of Go, Alice also has passions in researching, building simulations, coding and playing piano.

Raymond Feng

Webmaster, Raymond Feng

Raymond Feng is currently a sophomore attending Homestead High School and an AGA 3 dan. He has participated in 5 Go Congresses and has competed in the Redmond Cup finals for the junior division. He is also very interested in go AI development. Other activities that he enjoys doing include hanging out with friends, running, competing in math competitions, and coding/web design.

AGHS Volunteering - If you are interested in volunteering for the AGHS and furthering go in America, check out the application. The application is quick and simple, yet it offers a rewarding experience in the AGHS.
