Tournament Rules

  1. Time control is 45 minutes main time (MT) with traditional byo-yomi overtime of 5 periods of 30 seconds.
  2. Komi is set to Ing standard of 7.5 points awarded to white. If a single digit kyu player or stronger is present, a handicap will be used. If not, no handicap will be used.
  3. All games are played on tournament regulation 19 x 19 board.
  4. Tournament directors will be available to assist you in the event of any problems or questions.
  5. If a player is late for the start of the match, the tournament official will note the lateness of the player in question and deduct that amount of time from the start of his or her game clock.
  6. If a player does not arrive within thirty minutes of the actual start of the round, he or she forfeits the game unless extreme circumstances are submitted to the Hearings Committee within three days of the game.
  7. Touch move rules apply.
  8. To avoid any appearance of impropriety, coaches, parents, and teammates may not speak to players during play except in the presence of a TD. Speaking to anyone other than a TD about any of the games in progress may result in a penalty.
  9. When making a claim, or in the event of any dispute, either player must approach the TD with the amount of time remaining on both clocks and stop the clocks. Only the players involved may make a claim regard matters that happen at your board. If you think a TD has made an error, you should ask to appeal to the Executive TD, and then to the Hearings Committee. A frivolous claim may be penalized by adding time to your opponent¹s clock or by suffering a point penalty.
  10. When a player runs out of time the game is forfeited.
  11. The game is over when both players agree to a result. When your game is over, submit the result of the game to the tournament director and wait for verification. After you have reported your result to the TD, then the result is final.
  12. Pairings made by computer will be considered official unless serious inequity, as determined by the tournament staff, will result.
  13. Teams will generally be paired against others with the same score. Every reasonable effort will be made to avoid pairing players from the same team, but this may be unavoidable, especially in the top two point groups in the last two rounds if no other reasonable pairings are possible.
  14. Ties for individual and team awards will be broken based off difficulty of schedule.
  15. Tournament Directors will post the official pairings. All matches will occur in the AGHS Tournaments Room on KGS.
  16. Games will be scheduled on weekends. All pairings are definitive.
  17. You can request a reschedule only under extenuatingcircumstances.
  18. You must have a clear reason for missing the match, and you must notify the tournament staff or officials at least 48 hours before the start of the round.
  19. You have the opportunity to reschedule only once per round.
  20. All teams that participate will receive an award only if the team completes 66% of its games.
